Bill Ed Huff has composed music

since age 11; won 3 consecutive

Missouri Young Composers awards,

the Smit Prize for Composition;

multiple National MTA/Missouri MTA/ Tennessee MTA awards for his piano, French horn, and violin sonatas, as well as choral pieces such as "Faithwork I",

& "Faithwork of John".  In 1990, Bill Ed was awarded the heralded national

ASCAP/Victor Herbert Award for Song Composition for "Tu Solus" 

for soprano, cello, and piano.

Bill Ed graduated Magna cum laude

from the University of Memphis with a Music Composition degree, having studied composition under Dr. Don Freund,

orchestration under Dr. David Williams,

conducting under Dr. John Baur and Robert Griffith,

choral studies under Dr. Lawrence Edwards

while serving as President of UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS SINGERS.

Bill Ed also performed in Dr. Freund's dramatic opera,

"Portrait of Dora", was bass soloist in Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb" and "Hymn to St. Cecilia", and was primary keyboardist for the university jazz vocal ensemble, SOUND FUZION.

Bill Ed has served in churches directing Music & Worship since 1991. He began as a Music Associate at Graceland Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee before being appointed Music Director at St. Mark's United Methodist Church and Contemporary Music Director at Christ United Methodist Church of Memphis, all while simultaneously instructing Piano and Music Theory at the Germantown Baptist Conservatory of Music.  

 

While at Christ UMC, Bill Ed was primary keyboardist and music arranger for the praise group, THE LORD'S MOST DANGEROUS BAND, which led weekly worship for thousands at Christ UMC's heralded SATURDAY NIGHT ALIVE! evening services.  Bill Ed also performed in concert frequently in the Memphis area and recorded two albums of original worship music.  He sang as Bass soloist in Handel's MESSIAH with the Christ UMC Choir and Memphis Symphony Orchestra and led the Sunday morning Wilson Chapel Hour of Worship with the group SOUL PURPOSE.

In 2011, Bill Ed was offered the opportunity to be Director of Worship at Campbell United Methodist Church of Springfield, Missouri, where he proudly served for fifteen years as director of adult, youth, children's and bell choirs and the renowned and rousing

CAMPBELL WORSHIP BAND while composing original worship music as found on the albums "PRAYER", "BELIEVER", "SOAR" and "ARISE".  Bill Ed has composed and directed seasonal worship musicals such as 2021's "THE PASSION", a gospel re-enactment with all-original video and music filmed during the pandemic that was broadcast live to over 1,000 YouTube viewers; and 2022's "LIFE, HOPE, and RESURRECTION".

Recently, the all-original musical "APOSTLE" debuted on April 2, 2023 with the church's largest in-person & online attendance of the year.  A link to the online presentation is found HERE.

One of Bill Ed's compositions for Campbell, "THE NINTH HOUR", achieved 138,000 YouTube views by Easter 2025.
